The less said about Everton's 2019/20 season, the better.Carlo Ancelotti's hiring was perhaps the only positive from a campaign which saw the Toffees finish 12th in the Premier League table.Much of the damage was done during the first half of the season under the guidance of Marco Silva and years of poor recruitment severely restricted Ancelotti's ability to turn things around quickly.But Everton fans will be hoping the experienced Italian manager can galvanise the club and get them back fighting for European qualification in 2020/21.It won't be easy and to do so, Ancelotti will need those above him to get the chequebook out to inject some quality into the squad.
Thankfully for the manager and the club's loyal fans, that appears to the case.The ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano tweeted last night that Everton are closing in on the signings of James Rodriguez, Napoli midfielder Allan and Watford's Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Should the trio be announced by the club in the near future, the Toffees' potential starting XI for 2020/21 - which you can view below - looks pretty darn impressive.
On paper, that looks like a team capable of challenging the top six.
The Sun report that Ancelotti is eyeing up Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero after Jordan Pickford's sub-par performances last season.
Even with no new additions in defence, a back-four of Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Lucas Digne looks more than solid enough.
But just look at that midfield. Replacing Tom Davies, Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson with Rodriguez, Allan and Doucoure? The stuff of dreams for Everton fans.

If that XI comes to fruition and they can all remain fit for much of the 2020/21 campaign, Everton are going to be a serious threat.
