Barcelona's recruitment in recent years has been pretty darn awful.
Since winning the treble in 2015 under Luis Enrique, the Blaugrana have really struggled to find success in the transfer market.
That doesn't mean they haven't splashed the cash, though. In the last five transfer windows, Barca have spent £20m+ on 14 separate players.
Three of the 14 cost over £100m, taking the combined total of transfer fees for all 14 players to £698.94m - an average fee of £49.92m per player.
But spending money doesn't always equal success and once you go through our attempt at ranking the 14 players based on their exploits at Barca, you'll understand why Lionel Messi has lost faith in the club's sporting project.

14. Neto (£23.4m)
A baffling signing. Since signing for the club in 2019, Neto has made just five appearances in all competitions.
13. Andre Gomes (£33.3m)
The fact Gomes was jeered by Barca fans at the Camp Nou tells you everything you need to know about the Portuguese's time at the club.
12. Malcom (£36.9m)
No one really understood why Barca were so eager to pip AS Roma to the capture of Malcom. The only saving grace was that the Spanish club recouped most of their investment when the Brazilian was sold to Zenit last summer.
11. Arda Turan (£30.6m)
There were brief moments of quality from the Turkish midfielder after signing from Atletico Madrid, but it was pretty evident from the get-go that he was never going to be a hit at the Camp Nou.
10. Philippe Coutinho (£130.5m)
Barca's most expensive signing was a pretty disastrous one. Things quickly turned sour after an impressive start by the Brazilian and he was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich for the 2019/20 season - a decision which came back to haunt the Spanish giants.
9. Paco Alcacer (£27m)
With Luis Suarez as the first-choice striker, Alcacer never really stood a chance. He still managed 15 goals in 50 appearances, but the Spaniard simply wasn't good enough to break into the starting XI on a consistent basis.
8. Arthur Melo (£27.9m)
Upon arriving from Gremio, Barca fans thought the club had finally found the heir to Xavi Hernandez's throne. Sadly, it all went wrong for Arthur in 2019/20 and he was shipped off to Juve this summer.
7. Ousmane Dembele (£124.2m)
There's still time for the 23-year-old to make it in Catalonia. Dembele's performances during the 2018/19 season were promising, but persistent injuries may have take their toll on the French winger.
6. Nelson Semedo (£32.13m)
Semedo has been a consistent presence in the Barca first-team since his arrival from Benfica. He's not been *too* bad either, aside from THAT woeful performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
5. Antoine Griezmann (£108m)
You expect more from a £100m+ signing, but the Frenchman still managed 15 goals in 2019/20 despite being condemned to the bench for prolonged periods. The fact Griezmann sits fifth on our list says a lot, though...
4. Paulinho (£36m)
A signing that no one saw coming and Barca fans were incredibly pessimistic about the deal. In the end, Paulinho delivered the goods in his one and only season with the club and the Blaugrana have missed his goal threat from midfield.
3. Frenkie de Jong (£67.5m)
De Jong's first season in Catalonia was far from ideal. Nevertheless, there are signs that he has what it takes to be a quality mainstay in the Barca team for years to come.
2. Samuel Umtiti (£22.5m)
Before his injury issues, Umtiti was a very solid performer for the Blaugrana. But the fact a defender who has spent prolonged periods on the treatment table in recent years ranks at number two shows how dismal Barca's recruitment has been since 2015.
1. Clement Lenglet (£32.31m)
The French centre-back has been a more than decent acquisition for Barca and he has forged a pretty astute partnership with Gerard Pique since arriving at the club from Sevilla.
However, has Lenglet performed to a world-class standard at the Camp Nou? No. Neither have any of the 14 players on this list and that's why the Blaugrana are in the midst of a crisis.
It's simple: Messi deserves better than this.
