Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “Leeds United are a very big club and he will have been drawn by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
“You also have to look at Marcelo Bielsa, the pull that he has. The style of play that he has implemented at Leeds is a joy to watch and must be great to play in.
“Rodrigo de Paul is a player that Bielsa already knows.
"I am sure he has been watched for a number of years so this is somebody that looks like a fantastic player, a great signing and it is good to see that big clubs like Inter Milan are interested in him as well.”

Rodrigo De Paul is a player of immense quality and one who will certainly add to Marcelo Bielsa's pool of talent.
A creative midfielder and winger, the Argentine boasts quite a reputation which is found to get supporters' pulses racing this term.
Providing he can settle into Premier League life, I think that De Paul could be a big player.
Of course Leeds will need to strike a deal with Udinese to pull this one off, but given the noises coming out of the reports it seems that it's a case of when rather than if.
