Luis Suarez is on the brink of becoming a Juventus player.

Reports have long indicated that Barcelona no longer saw Suarez as a part of their plans for 2020/21 and their fantastic six-year collaboration was therefore set to expire.

Although Suarez's goal-scoring tallies have been declining over the last few season, he remains one of the most lethal number nines in world football and has attracted plenty of interest.

Suarez to leave Barcelona

However, it looks as though Juventus have fought off the competition to agree a deal for the Uruguayan, which has been confirmed by Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

Balague reported for the BBC on Friday afternoon that the former Liverpool striker had agreed a deal to join the Old Lady, moving on a free transfer or for a nominal fee at most.

The only hurdle ahead of Suarez making the deal official is believed to be confirmed with Barcelona of an agreement for his departure with the player's contract expiring next summer.

No bearing on Messi's future

The Italian media also claim that Suarez would need to pass an Italian citizenship test because of his Uruguayan passport, though his wife does own an Italian passport too.

It's important to note that Suarez's future is not believed to have a bearing on Lionel Messi, who has also been linked with a Barcelona exit and remains close friends with the 33-year-old.

The six-time Ballon d'Or has attracted interest from Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain as well as Juventus, too, but recent reports suggest he could remain in Catalonia.

Exciting buy for Juventus

But a move to the Allianz Stadium for Suarez would tee up a tantalising partnership with Messi's eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo as well as fellow South American forward Paulo Dybala.

Suarez would prove to be a sizeable upgrade on the long-since-declining Gonzalo Higuain and could help provide a steady supply of goals alongside Ronaldo for Andrea Pirlo's side.

The Old Lady won their ninth consecutive Serie A title last season, but dropped out of the Champions League in the round of 16 and lost two domestic finals in Italy.

It's signings like Suarez, however, that could be the difference between Juventus continuing to struggle and winning their first Champions League title since 1996. Watch this space.
