Kai Havertz has completed his move to Chelsea and becomes one of the club’s most expensive signings in the process. The talented 21-year-old midfielder, who caught the eye at Bayer Leverkusen over the past couple of seasons, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.Havertz was announced as a Chelsea player on Friday evening after being granted permission to complete the transfer from the German national team.He is Chelsea’s sixth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr. The deal has cost Chelsea £71 million, including add-ons. This makes Havertz Chelsea’s second-most expensive signing.

But who are Chelsea’s current 20 most expensive signings (excluding Havertz) and how good were they at Stamford Bridge?

Let’s take a closer look… (all fees are per Transfermarkt.com).

20. David Luiz (Fee: £31.5m)

Rating: 7/10

Luiz played seven seasons with Chelsea over the course of two spells and won a Premier League title, two FA Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League.

The Brazilian defender’s rating isn’t higher for obvious reasons. He made more than his fair share of individual mistakes on the pitch.

19. Eden Hazard (Fee: £31.5m)

Rating: 10/10

One of the best players in Chelsea’s history, the exceptional Hazard netted 110 goals in 352 games for the Blues before completing a £100 million move to Real Madrid in 2019.

18. Willian (Fee: £31.95m)

Rating: 7/10

Sometimes brilliant, other times frustrating, Willian scored 63 goals in 339 appearances for Chelsea before recently joining Arsenal.

17. N’Golo Kante (Fee: £32.22m)

Rating: 9/10

The loveable Frenchman won the title in his first season with Chelsea, as well as the Premier League Player of the Season award. Kante has been worth his weight in gold for the Blues since his arrival from Leicester City.

16. Danny Drinkwater (Fee: £34.11m)

Rating: 1/10

Sadly, Kante’s former Leicester teammate Drinkwater failed to have the same impact at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder has only made 23 appearances for the club since 2017, scoring one goal.

15. Michael Essien (Fee: £34.2m)

Rating: 9/10

A tremendous central midfielder who always gave his all for the Blues, Essien played 256 games for Chelsea between 2005-2014, scoring 25 goals in all competitions.

14. Diego Costa (Fee: £34.2m)

Rating: 8/10

The hot-headed Spaniard won two Premier League titles with Chelsea, as well as the League Cup, before returning to Atletico Madrid after falling out with Antonio Conte.

13. Didier Drogba (Fee: £34.65m)

Rating: 10/10

The greatest player in Chelsea’s history? It’s surely between Drogba and Frank Lampard. The world-class striker won four league titles, the same number of FA Cups and famously inspired the Blues to Champions League glory in 2012.

12. Michy Batshuayi (Fee: £35.1m)

Rating: 4/10

If only his football was as good as his social media game. Batshuayi netted 25 goals in 77 matches for the west London outfit.

11. Tiemoue Bakayoko (Fee: £36m)

Rating: 1/10

Bakayoko is somehow still on Chelsea’s payroll. The French midfielder, who has spent the past couple of seasons out on loan at AC Milan and AS Monaco, struggled badly in the Premier League.

10. Hakim Ziyech (Fee: £36m)

Rating: N/A

The Moroccan winger has the potential to become one of the biggest stars in English football.

9. Andriy Shevchenko (Fee: £39.49m)

Rating: 3/10

Arguably the best striker in the world when Chelsea signed him from AC Milan in 2006, Shevchenko was a bitter disappointment in the Premier League. He managed to score just nine goals in 48 league games for the Blues.

8. Mateo Kovacic (Fee: £40.5m)

Rating: 7/10

A top midfielder, Kovacic should keep his place in Chelsea’s starting line-up during the 2020-21 season.

p1ehdanu5o6q51d0h17mrctl82214.jpg

7. Ben Chilwell (Fee: £45.18m)

Rating: N/A

Chilwell has been one of the Premier League’s best left-backs over the past couple of seasons at Leicester. There’s no reason why he can’t take his game to the next level at Chelsea.

p1ehdaomk14g429ad91932jee16.jpg

6. Timo Werner (Fee: £47.7m)

Rating: N/A

Werner scored 34 goals in 45 games for RB Leipzig last season and has already opened his account for Chelsea during a pre-season friendly against Brighton.

p1ehdap9oudnu1ro81pkt1s9b1kq818.jpg

5. Jorginho (Fee: £51.3m)

Rating: 6/10

Brought to Chelsea by Maurizio Sarri, Jorginho has blown hot and cold since his arrival from Napoli in 2018.

p1ehdaq0ja21o13pn3u9dmlq1r1a.jpg

4. Fernando Torres (Fee: £52.65m)

Rating: 4/10

Was Torres a total flop for Chelsea? No. But was he disappointing? Absolutely. Forty-five goals in 172 games was a poor return for a striker of his reputation, although he did leave the Bridge with FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League winners’ medals.

p1ehdar1f918mio3512u112cr1eei1c.jpg

3. Christian Pulisic (Fee: £57.6m)

Rating: 8/10

The American was fantastic towards the end of last season and could cement his reputation as one of European football’s best attacking wingers this term.

p1ehdarpeo5g9g103ut1p6otfu1e.jpg

2. Alvaro Morata (Fee: £59.4m)

Rating: 3/10

Morata managed to score just 24 goals in 72 games for Chelsea before returning to Spain in January 2019, signing for Atletico Madrid.

p1ehdaso5v1s7prmvi54s0a1lir1g.jpg

1. Kepa Arrizabalaga (Fee: £72m)

Rating: 2/10

Lampard wants to replace the Spanish goalkeeper, who endured a difficult second season at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old had the worst save percentage of any Premier League goalkeeper during 2019-20 and makes far too many mistakes.
