Rangers FC interested in luring ace with 51 SPFL appearances to Ibrox

Patrick Roberts vs Rangers

With the international break now upon us, Rangers FC and Steven Gerrard couldn't have had a better start to the SPFL campaign. If Ibrox could house any supporters, it would be bouncing right now.

They are six points clear of old nemesis Celtic at the top of the table and they are sitting pretty in first place.

This season was meant to be all about ten in a row but the Gers aren't making things easy for their rivals.

They have been brilliant in the opening weeks of the season and as well as being unbeaten, they haven't conceded a single goal.

For such a shambolic defensive unit in the second half of last term, Gerrard's backline has been an absolute revelation.

They have taken the Scottish Premiership by storm and have become the first team for 114 years to successfully keep six clean sheets in the opening half a dozen matches of a new season.

Talk about impressive numbers. Rangers certainly aren't here to mess about this season.

The transfer window is still open for the time being too, and it appears as though Ross Wilson has some manoeuvres in mind.

The Light Blues have signed a host of players but the latest transfer story doing the rounds is quite incredible.

According to French source Sqenf Foot, Rangers are interested in signing Patrick Roberts on loan from Manchester City.

Yes, you read that right, a former Celtic player could be on his way to the blue side of Glasgow this summer.

The credibility of the source is questionable but it wouldn't be a surprise if Roberts was indeed available this summer.

After all, he has no chance of getting into the Man City first-team.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

You can snarl and snigger all you like about Rangers signing a former Celtic player, but Roberts has already lit up the SPFL and would be an astute capture for the Gers.

The winger has played 51 times in the Scottish top-flight, scoring 15 goals and laying on 19 assists.

That's a very handy tally for a young player who is thought of incredibly highly in Scotland.

Speaking about the 23-year-old when he was last in Glasgow, Brendan Rodgers waxed lyrical about his talents. He said: "Patrick is more a David Silva type, more on the inside. He looks like he has an eye for goal. He’s very young and he looks a talent."

Roberts has struggled to replicate the form he found in Scotland over the last few years, however.

He scored just once last term in senior football and it appears as though the winger still needs to discover a lot more about his game.

The attacker has already thrived in Scotland so perhaps he could reinvigorate his career at Rangers. That's if the fans would accept him.
