Gareth Bale played football for the first time in three months on Thursday night - and it showed.

The forward featured Wales in their opening Nations League tie against Finland, but only lasted 45-minutes before being subbed off.

His stats didn't exactly make for great reading, either.

Bale scored no goals, provided no assists, key passes or accurate crosses.

He didn't even take a shot on target, lost possession nine times, only made one successful dribble and completed just nine passes.

Pretty dreadful, right?

But perhaps we can't just blame Bale. He spent a majority of the 2019/20 season sitting on the bench and hasn't featured for Real Madrid at all since June.

Bale has spent most of the season on the bench

It seems such a waste to have a player of the Welshman's quality on the bench. Not only is he sitting out the last few years of his peak, but he's also draining the club's funds.

Bale is said to be on a wage of €15m-per-year, which for a substitute, is crazy money.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Cadena Ser, per Cuatro, Real have finally found a solution to their problem.

Real have solved their Bale issue

Los Blancos are now willing to make Bale a free agent this summer and pay him half his wages.

In doing that, the hope is that another club would be interested in signing the player and pay the other half of his salary.

Cadena Ser suggest that as of now, no club is interested in signing Bale and paying his huge €15m-a-year wage.

Madrid may finally find a buyer for Bale

Therefore, Real Madrid have been forced to consider drastic action and will be willing to release their star.

It would be quite an incredible move and if Bale does end up a free agent, a number of Europe's top clubs would be willing to pay half his salary, surely?
