Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of reaching an incredible landmark.

The Portuguese superstar has scored 99 goals for his country and is just one strike away from a full century.

Rather frustratingly, he's been stuck on 99 since November last year, when he scored against Luxembourg.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, international football was stopped shortly after meaning Ronaldo simply hasn't had the chance to reach 100 yet.

Portugal are back in action on Saturday evening, hosting Croatia in the opening game of the UEFA Nations League.

But due to an unfortunate injury, it seems Ronaldo will have to wait a little while longer to score goal 100.

According to Football Italia, the forward is not in the squad for tonight's game, due to the effects of a bee sting.

Ronaldo will miss Saturday's game

The Ballon d’Or winner has been out of training for a few days because his right foot has become infected due to the sting.

He's treating the issue with medication, but Portugal boss Fernando Santos confirmed Ronaldo won't be fit enough to play against Croatia.

"I am very doubtful that he will be 100 per cent OK," Santos said during his press conference, per The Sun

Ronaldo has been training with his country

"He had been training well, then suddenly on Wednesday one of his toes was red, as if he’d been stung by a bee.

"Now we have to wait. With an infection, you don’t know how long the recovery is going to take."

This injury will no doubt be massively frustrating for Ronaldo. Hitting 100 international goals must have been in his sights ahead of the new season.

Ronaldo will be frustrated by his injury

The Juventus star will now have to wait until at least September 8, when his country play Sweden in the second match of their Nations League group.

International goal 100 will no doubt come, but it's going to be delayed for now.
