England's 1-0 win away in Iceland yesterday evening is a game that will not live long in the memory.

Gareth Southgate's side may have kickstarted their UEFA Nations League campaign with three points, but their performance in Reykjavik was pretty dire.

The Three Lions required a 90th-minute penalty from Raheem Sterling to secure victory after Kyle Walker's second half red card.

Iceland's Birkir Bjarnason then squandered a chance to equalise from the spot seconds later following a dubious foul from Joe Gomez.

All in all, it was a game that proved England still have significant deficiencies, especially in the midfield department.

Southgate hands out instructions

But that doesn't mean the talent isn't there. Despite their struggles against Iceland, the Three Lions' current squad for the Nations League is worth a whopping €1bn.

That's over €100m more than any other team on the continent and you can view the squad valuations of the top 40 European nations below.

England's Raheem Sterling

The Three Lions are comfortably clear of Europe's big hitters and that's without the likes of Marcus Rashford, Dele Alli and Harry Maguire in their squad - three players all worth over €50m.

One of the key reasons for their superiority in the valuation department is the presence of Sterling, Jadon Sancho and captain Harry Kane.

All three forwards are worth over €100m and to put that into perspective, only 10 players in world football have nine-figure values on Transfermarkt.

England are blessed with copious amounts of talent, but Southgate still has a lot of work to do if he is to turn this team into a force capable of winning major trophies.
