Daniel Levy is a man on a mission this summer.

The Tottenham Hotspur chief will have have been far from pleased at what he saw last term, with the north London club falling painfully short of expectations across the board.

After winning the Champions League in the previous season, the hope was to challenge for the trophy once more while also ensuring that they finished in the Premier League's top four as a minimum.

That simply didn't happen.

Despite Jose Mourinho joining the club, Spurs could only manage a top six finish in the league - an achievement which was relatively good going considering how poor they were.

But while this was seen as satisfactory last term, there's no doubt that the same result will not be tolerated this time around.

Tottenham are keen to strengthen their squad by bringing in a core of British talent who will help the side to compete on all fronts this term.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty have already been added, with Tottenham now thought to be prioritising a move for an attacker.

Several names have already been linked with a move to north London, but according to Alan Nixon of The Sun it's a fresh face who could be seen as a target.

That man is Ollie Watkins.

The Brentford man has rarely been out of the headlines so far this summer after a stunning season for the Bees last term which saw him score 26 goals in all competitions.

Aston Villa are said to be leading the race to secure his signature this summer, but with Mourinho looking at attacking options it seems that Watkins may now be considered for a switch to the Lilywhites.

Nixon tweeted: "VILLA. Face genuine competition from SPURS for Ollie Watkins.

"BRENTFORD sell to best bidder. Player goes to best club for him."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would certainly be an eye-catching deal.

Ollie Watkins was in stunning form for Brentford last term and looked head and shoulders above his rivals in the Championship.

A move to the Premier League is inevitable, but it's just a case of where he will end up.

Despite being described by Noel Whelan as 'a really special player', I'm just not sure that a move to Tottenham will materialise.

Watkins will have ambitions of being the main man at a club in the top flight, and with Harry Kane around I just can't see it happening.

It would be a huge step up, and while the forward is outstanding, it's probably a bit of a leap to expect him to thrive at a club who need to be dominating next term.
