Leeds United handed potential blow in pursuit of Argentina ace

The Premier League season is just a matter of days away and for one club the big kick-off can't come quick enough.

Leeds United secured their long-awaited return to the top flight last term after storming to promotion.

That campaign brought an end to 16 years away from England's elite league - a period which has been incredibly tough on supporters.

But that struggle is now a thing of the part.

With Marcelo Bielsa at the wheel the hope is that Leeds can very much hit the ground running this term and establish themselves back among the big boys.

As far as preparations are concerned fans can have no complaints so far.

Victor Orta and his recruitment team have certainly been busy after signing Robin Koch and Rodrigo, while also adding a flurry of talented youngsters as well.

But their work is far from done.

Leeds are still hoping to add numerous players to the team, one of whom is Rodrigo De Paul.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Elland Road as they look to bolster their advanced midfield options.

But while a move it touted to progress in the coming weeks, one reporter has suggested that Leeds now face competition from a Premier League rival.

Gianluigi Longari is regarded as one of the top reporters in Italy and has taken to social media to claim that Leicester City are now entering the race for the Udinese man.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

What a deal this would be if Leeds United could pull it off.

The Whites are determined to strengthen their attacking options this summer and a move for Rodrigo De Paul would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Capped 17 times by Argentina, the 26-year-old certainly possesses the required quality to bolster Marcelo Bielsa's squad.

But such a top level player will always attract interest from elsewhere.

Leicester City are a club who will be pushing for the top four again this term, and the fact that they reportedly want to bring in De Paul is a clear indicator of just how highly-regarded he is.

It's still thought that Bielsa could be the trump card in getting a deal done, but much will depend on the project being project being pitched to him.

There will surely be few proposals as exciting as the one coming out of Elland Road at the moment though, and that's why a move to Leeds still seems likely.
