Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a big season.

Last season was a real disappointment for the north London side in a campaign which promised so much in the early stages.

Instead of pushing towards a genuine Premier League title challenge, Spurs struggled for consistency and found themselves loitering in mid-table for much of the season.

While Jose Mourinho came in and worked to turn things around, the best that he could manage was a top six finish that led to Europa League qualification.

That was seen as a relative success last term, but that won't be the case this time around.

Mourinho will need to qualify for the Champions League by any means necessary, and that's why the club have been working so hard to bolster their squad.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty have already joined the club, but Spurs are far from finished.

With attention turning to the next potential signing, Football London's Tottenham reporter Alasdair Gold has lifted the lid on where the club's focus lies now.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold said: “It’s key now to get a striker.

“There’s three signings in so far and so I’m told by the club that all of the focus is on finding a striker through the door.

“I’m told that there’s enough funds now for a reasonably priced striker right now, so they’re looking to get that done.

“It’s kind of all that Spurs need.

“You need to find a striker who is happy to have a slightly reduced role, because they will.

“Spurs just don’t have the money right now to go out and buy a mega striker who will make Harry Kane shake in his boots.

“I do think we underestimate just how good Harry Kane is.

“He’s an all-dominating presence in a football team and that limits the sort of strikers that you can look at.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This has been a priority for Tottenham Hotspur for too long.

While Harry Kane is undoubtedly the most important player for Spurs, it's hugely naive to think that they can compete with just him in attack.

We've seen that in recent years when injuries have struck.

If Tottenham can sign a player who will compliment Kane over the course of the season then that will be excellent business.

It's tricky to sign a good player who is happy to play second fiddle, but if you find the right player who is looking for an opportunity to step up to a top club, then you're in luck.

Whether Spurs can find that player remains to be seen, but it'll be interesting to see if Tottenham can do that before the close of the window.
