Leeds United closing in on signing as transfer update emerges

Leeds United have just a few more days to wait for their Premier League return.

It's been 16 long years since the Whites graced the top flight and after a lengthy spell in the wilderness they're finally back where they belong.

But there's no time for self-congratulation.

Despite storming to promotion last term and winning the league by 10 points, Leeds know that they face a massive uphill task this term if they're to compete.

Marcelo Bielsa will no doubt have aspirations of finishing as high up the table as possible, but he know that the first target has to be avoiding relegation.

Bielsa will stick largely with the core of players who helped Leeds to promotion last term, but he will also be looking to his newer additions.

Robin Koch and Rodrigo are among the players who've been brought in to the squad already alongside a flurry of high potential young stars.

But Leeds aren't done yet.

Several other players have been linked with a move, most notably Josko Gvardiol.

The 18-year-old Dinamo Zagreb man has been widely linked with a move to Elland Road this summer with Leeds touting him as their top target.

According to the latest reports from Football Insider, that move is getting closer with Leeds offering him 'a long-term deal' to join the club.

It's also claimed that the parties are hopeful of a deal being agreed before the Premier League gets underway this weekend.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This deal looks more likely to happen with every day that passes.

Josko Gvardiol is one of the brightest prospects to come out of Croatia in recent years, and that means that Leeds would be getting a good player.

The £18m sum being discussed is significant, but given his potential it's a deal which could boast significant returns in the years to come.

It's also an added bonus that Leeds might be able to get the deal done before the weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa will be delighted if he can get this one over the line.

His experience and passion for training and developing young players is second to none, and that will certainly serve Gvardiol well if he moves to Elland Road.
