Manchester United may not have landed Jadon Sancho yet this summer but, last week, they did sign Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £35m.

The 23-year-old had played 175 times for the Dutch side, scoring 41 goals.

His performances during his side’s run to the 2018/19 Champions League semi-finals caught the attention of many major European clubs.

And after signing for United, Van de Beek couldn’t hide his excitement.

"I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history," he said.

"I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United.

"This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know that I can learn from them and also bring my own strengths to the group.

"Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that."

While the midfielder will be ready to make his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace this weekend, he hasn’t played a competitive club match in nearly six months.

And that, perhaps, was obvious as he lined up for the Netherlands against Italy in their Nations League clash on Monday.

That’s because some fans are claiming he produced a ‘disasterclass’ before he was hauled off after 57 minutes during Holland’s 1-0 defeat.

In the first half, he completed just two passes. By the end of his performance, he made just five.

While one disappointing performance isn’t something that should worry United fans too much, there were plenty of football supporters who decided to tweet about Van de Beek’s display.

He’ll be looking to show everyone what he’s really capable as the Red Devils take on Crystal Palace on Saturday evening as they kick off their season.
