Tottenham's summer has been a rollercoaster so far.

At the beginning of it, they were faced with £200m losses and were forced into a situation where they had take a loan of £175m from the British government.

Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho were also arguing over transfers, in particular their plans to sign Thomas Meunier.

Ultimately, he did not join, but Levy and Mourinho have a good working relationship again.

Although they missed out Meunier, they signed an impressive right-back in Matt Doherty for a fee of just £12m.

Although Spurs didn't have much money, they could still target bargains that would improve the overall balance of their side.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has also arrived but there are potentially further recruits coming from the domestic leagues. Ollie Watkins and Will Hughes have been linked most recently while Demarai Gray is supposedly on their radar.

However, speaking of full-backs, it's a left-sided player they're now targeting.

Spurs have been in the race to sign Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid in recent weeks but they're also joined in the hunt by Manchester United.

The Spaniard was on loan at Sevilla last season but they can't afford a deal to bring him back for 2020/21.

Journalist Senén Escalante took to Twitter to explain that Sevilla were willing to pay a fee of €20m (£18m) for his services but United are now ahead in the pecking order and are willing to pay €30m (£26.9m).

Tottenham, therefore, could potentially acquire the player by bidding the same amount for Reguilon.

Danny Rose has long been touted with an exit from Spurs and in recent days it's been reported that the left-back definitely wants to leave.

With that fresh in the mind, Mourinho will need extra cover on his left-hand side.

Jan Vertonghen has departed on a free transfer so it would leave just Ben Davies as an option at left-back.

And who better than Reguilon to replace the outgoing Rose?

He is an excellent talent, being described as "dazzling" for his performances at Sevilla last term. He starred during their triumphant Europa League run, laying on an assist against Man United and tormenting new Spurs signing Matt Doherty.

That was when his temporary side faced Wolves as the left-back made two tackles, had one shot and also managed a key pass which led to a scoring opportunity.

Furthermore, he was also fouled on two occasions. Clearly, Doherty found life difficult on his right-hand side.

This bodes well for Spurs if they are willing to pay the money required to sign the 23-year-old.
