Celtic should be thankful for having an international break to recharge a little bit.

The opening few weeks of the season have been a whirlwind for Neil Lennon who has had to deal with more than he can chew.

Boli Bolingoli's future at Parkhead is in doubt after his quarantine fiasco and after having two games postponed, they're now six points behind Rangers.

This was a season where the Hoops were supposed to win ten in a row - it had been scripted as such. However, that's looking less likely than anticipated, especially after the start Rangers have had.

That being said, Celtic should take comfort from some of their new signings.

Nick Hammond has been busy this summer but Albian Ajeti has hit the ground running with two goals in two games.

If Odsonne Edouard leaves, then they should rest easy knowing they have someone to replace him. Of course, we can't speak too soon, but the early signs from the striker look promising.

Celtic have also been in the hunt for a winger this summer. They did fancy a swoop for Ryan Fraser before his move to Newcastle, but now it's another attacker in the north-east of England that's being mentioned in the same break as the Bhoys.

That's because Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady wants to move back to Scotland and with Celtic in particular.

In a recent interview, the 34-year-old admitted the following:

"Maybe if Lenny [Neil Lennon] gets in touch then I might [return], aye. But I don't think that's going to happen, I think that ship has sailed.

"My first choice would be Celtic but I think that time in my career has passed to be honest with you."

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

A move for McGeady is highly unlikely but he's been there and done it all in Scotland.

Boasting 159 SPFL appearances, he played for Celtic between 2004 and 2010. It's crazy to think he hasn't stepped foot in the famous green and white for over ten years now.

McGeady struggled to get in the Charlton team after moving on loan in the back half of the 2019/20 campaign and that is enough to suggest he probably isn't at the level Celtic require anymore.

That being said, he's a player that's thought of highly in Glasgow.

He scored 28 goals and registered 46 assists during his time at Celtic, where he was managed by the likes of Martin O'Neill and Gordon Strachan.

The latter would often argue with McGeady but he found it difficult not to praise the winger.

Speaking to The Sun in April this year, Strachan named his best ever Celtic XI and included the 34-year-old in it.

He said: "He’s got incredible ability and worked so hard. He could play anywhere in attack."

McGeady is still a tricky player to deal with but the player recognises the ship has probably sailed. He'd be correct in thinking that too.
