It's a big summer for Arsenal.

After a disappointing campaign last time out, the Gunners have hopes of closing the gap on the Premier League top four.

In recent years they have fallen away from the top of the table, but things feel slightly different this time around.

Mikel Arteta is changing the culture at the Emirates Stadium as he looks to build a team of players with the correct mentality to thrive under the pressure that comes with playing for the club.

While the battle to offload some of the club's bad eggs continues, the Gunners have moved to bring in some strong signings this summer.

Willian was first to join the club on a free transfer from Chelsea - a model professional who knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

He was followed by fellow Brazilian Gabriel Magalhaes who arrived on a big-money deal from Lille.

But while those two will be much-needed additions, Arsenal had been hoping to add some much needed creativity to their midfield.

Plenty of names have been linked, one of whom is Philippe Coutinho.

The midfielder looked likely to move on after a mixed spell with Barcelona so far - a period which included a season-long loan deal with Bayern Munich last term.

But according to the latest reports, that move might now be off the table.

Reports from Marca, via The Sun, have claimed that Coutinho could be set to stick around at the Nou Camp.

It's said that Ronald Koeman sees the former Liverpool man as a key part of his plans as he starts to rebuild the Catalan giants.

Koeman could now look to Coutinho to fill a central midfield role as he prepares for his first season in charge of the club.

This will be a real blow for Arsenal.

The prospect of signing Philippe Coutinho was one which was hugely appealing for supporters of the north London side.

But with that move off the table they'll now have to look elsewhere.

As far as Barcelona are concerned, this makes perfect sense.

Valued at £50.4m by Transfermarkt, Coutinho is a quality player who is capable of making an impact at the biggest clubs in world football.

Okay, it hasn't worked out for him so far, but there's plenty of time for him to make the impression that he wants.
