Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a big season.

After the disappointment of the last 12 months the focus of everyone at the north London club is to get themselves back on track.

A sixth place finish was a decent return last term - particularly when you consider the amount of uncertainty around the club.

But those standards will not be tolerated this time around.

Jose Mourinho was brought in for one reason and one reason only, and that's to win silverware.

Whether it's the Premier League, the Europa League or the FA Cup, it doesn't matter as long as he ends that drought.

But if he's going to do that then he'll need a squad of players who can handle the pressure that comes with the territory.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty have already been brought into the club, while several other positions are being targeted.

One of the areas discussed is at left back, but according to Tottenham reporter Ricky Sacks, that may no longer be the case.

Speaking on The Last Word On Spurs podcast, Sacks said: "The club aren’t looking at the moment to bring in a left-back, from what we understand from quite high-up sources.

“How do you feel about going into next season with Ben Davies, with Ryan Sessegnon, and now Dennis Cirkin?

“Does that scream to you that’s enough to secure top four?

"Because to me, I will be honest with you, that doesn’t tell me or give me the confidence that this is going to be good enough to really go and give the league a real push.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Ricky Sacks' update that Tottenham Hotspur are not looking for a left back is not much of a surprise.

Spurs are limited for funds this summer and that's why they're looking at players who are available for relatively modest fees.

After signing three players the focus will now be on signing a striker - a deal which in truth will probably be their last of the summer.

I understand the concern that perhaps the left backs at the club aren't necessarily Champions League level defenders, but that's not taking finances into the equation.

Spurs can't afford to completely overhaul the squad, and so for this season it may be a case of adding modest improvements and then looking at more wholesale changes next summer.
