You can't blame Leeds United for wanting to spend vast sums of money this summer.

They have been tied down by the tight financial restrictions of the EFL and after raking in an estimated £200m from promotion, they have cash reserves just waiting to be thrown at players.

This has been a summer to remember for Leeds supporters and for the first time since 2000, they broke their transfer record.

The Whites clearly mean business and ahead of an opening day clash against Liverpool, they had to be prepared.

They may have had a topsy-turvy pre-season, losing to Stoke but defeating Pacos de Ferreira, but they have been anything but lacklustre in the transfer market.

Including academy additions, Leeds have welcomed eight players through the door on a permanent basis.

Victor Orta has clearly been a busy man and his efforts to make the club better aren't stopping.

Marcelo Bielsa

After signing Rodrigo and Robin Koch, there is a sense that Leeds still need another defender, particularly at left-back.

Fortunately, they're in the hunt to sign one.

An enquiry was made to sign Lazio full-back Jordan Lukaku last month and a deal to sign the Belgian could well materialise in the not too distant future.

That's because the player reportedly wants a move to the Premier League.

According to The Daily Mail, he is weighing up a switch to English shores after his proposed move to Newcastle fell apart earlier this year.

The report states that he has desires of getting in Belgium's squad for the European Championships next summer and that he could leave in order to achieve those aims.

Lazio are said to be wanting £5m for his services, but they may also allow Lukaku to leave on loan.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This is absolutely ideal news for Leeds.

Andrea Radrizzani and his intermediary have already enquired about his services and it now looks as though even the player has put himself in the shop window.

Considering the Whites lack competent players at left-back - Barry Douglas and Gjanni Alioski - swooping for someone like Lukaku would be perfect.

He wants to move to England and is an absolute bargain at just £5m.

The 26-year-old should also have no problems fitting into life in the Premier League. He is a robust and powerful defender who loves rampaging forward.

Jordan Lukaku

He was described as a player with "boundless energy" at the Euros in 2016 and that's something that should have Marcelo Bielsa leaping off his seat.

All you need to do is consider his training methods. The famed 'murderball' where you play non-stop football should be a breeze for someone which as much energy as Lukaku.

He should also be competent when it comes to pressing - a tactic that Leeds use on a regular basis.
