Aston Villa's summer has taken an exciting turn in the last week or so.

After seeing Matty Cash walk through the door, the club confirmed the record arrival of Ollie Watkins from Brentford.

The Villans have been keen to exploit the Championship market this summer and they can take comfort from doing so. Just look at the successful policy that's been installed at Sheffield United.

The Blades have rarely signed overseas players and have instead opted to look at the second tier to improve their squad. Given their top half league placing last term, it's clearly paid off.

Aston Villa will be hoping for similar fortunes, especially after the marked improvement in the final weeks of the 2019/20 campaign.

They didn't lose a single one of their last four outings so the standard has been set now by Dean Smith's side.

With Johan Lange replacing Suso as the new Sporting Director, they have much clearer strategies in place and look well set to cement themselves next season.

However, they aren't going to rest on their laurels and could sign yet another striker this summer after missing out on Callum Wilson initially.

Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster is one of the latest names at the forefront of Villa's mind.

They are one of six clubs interested in signing the starlet on a permanent basis with Brighton, Newcastle and Sheffield United all expressing interest.

On Tuesday evening there was an update on the type of deal the Reds would want for Brewster.

According to Sky Sports, they would be happy to sell permanently but only if it includes a buy-back clause as some form of protection.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

You'd have to feel for Keinan Davis if this deal goes through.

He began to get more opportunities towards the back end of last season but now he could be the fifth choice option if Brewster arrives.

They already have Wesley and Mbwana Samatta while Watkins is now surely the number one option for that central berth.

That being said, it would surely be worth bringing Brewster in.

He scored 16 goals in all competitions last term, including 10 strikes in the Championship for Swansea where his first regular taste of senior-team football brought huge rewards.

Brewster is as clinical as young players come in front of goal and he has a huge future ahead of him. Speaking to Sky Sports during their coverage of Swansea vs Sheffield Wednesday (05/07/20), Clinton Morrison raved about the forward.

"I think he is a super talent and has done ever so well at Swansea. And he scores all sorts of goals, which I like," he commented.

Villa would certainly do little wrong by landing the 20-year-old this summer.
