Newcastle United have endured a more turbulent summer than most.

After securing a mid-table finish in the Premier League last term there was hope that a £300million takeover of the club could change the future prospects of the Tynesiders.

But when that deal fell through it was back to square one for supporters.

For a long time it looked as though the club would be taking a somewhat frugal approach to the summer transfer market, with Mark Gillespie and Jeff Hendrick joining the club on free transfers.

However as the potential for a takeover slipped away, focus had to turn to the Premier League season.

This term is likely to be even more competitive that usual, and that's why Newcastle have to be ready for what could be a long and hard campaign.

But the deals completed this week have gone to restore the faith of the Newcastle United fans.

Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser both arrived at the club from Bournemouth, before Jamal Lewis completed his switch from Norwich City.

Those deals have plugged many of the gaps in Steve Bruce's side, but it seems that they might not be done yet.

Reports from The Telegraph have claimed that Newcastle may still move for Danny Rose.

The Tottenham man faces an uncertain future in North London after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho.

Several clubs have been linked with a move, including the Magpies.

But with a move for Lewis addressing the club's defensive frailties, it was suggested that a move for Rose would no longer happen.

But reports from The Telegraph seem to suggest that a move could still be on the cards.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

While I still think that this move is unlikely to happen, there's no doubt that it'd be a good deal for Newcastle United.

Valued at £14.4m by Transfermarkt, Danny Rose is a proven, top class full-back in the Premier League and that's been shown over many years.

He showed the sort of form during his loan spell last term that would suggest that he would be a big asset for Steve Bruce's side.

But it all depends on finances.

With Jamal Lewis already on board, Newcastle will be keen to use their funds to strengthen other areas of the team as a priority.

There's nothing to suggest that this move won't happen, but I still think it's unlikely.
