Just when you thought the transfer window was calming down at Elland Road, we received a double whammy of transfer news on Tuesday evening.

Firstly, we saw interest emerge in PSG's Julian Draxler. That would be a considerable coup but it shows that Leeds are being incredibly ambitious.

However, on the same day, an improved bid was mooted for one of their more long-term targets.

It has been an incredibly busy period for Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta.

They have been quick to move and act on the extra funds gained from achieving promotion. Never before has Radrizzani had this much to spend.

Tied down by the tight financial restrictions of the EFL since he walked through the door, he is now finally flexing his financial muscles.

This summer has seen Leeds mentioned in the same breath as some elite talents. Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were the focus of reports earlier this year while an enquiry was also reportedly made for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. This really has been a crazy time.

However, it's a defender that they could be on the verge of signing if you believe the word of Fabrizio Romano.

In recent weeks, Leeds have been interested in signing Croatian teenager Josko Gvardiol.

A fee of €20m (£17.7m) had previously been touted for his services but the Whites have now had to up that fee in order to try and prise him away from Dinamo Zagreb.

Romano took to Twitter to reveal the following:

"Leeds have submitted a new bid to sign Josko Gvardiol: €22m + 20% percentage on future sale. Dinamo Zagreb asked for €25m as price tag. Also RB Leipzig are in the race but made a lower bid [around €15m]."

In English money, that's a fee of £20m.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

It's clear Leeds need another defender this summer - they have just two senior centre-backs at the moment.

But despite that, is £20m really a wise fee for someone like Gvardiol?

At just 18, he has plenty of room to grow, but they paid a significantly lower fee for Robin Koch.

The German is capped at international level and has been playing regularly in one of Europe's top five leagues.

Leeds need to be careful that they're not taken for a walk here by Dinamo.

The teenager is technically and physically sound but that is a lot of money to spend on a relatively unproven player.

A few million less and you could argue that it was shrewd business.

However, at the end of the day, he's set to cost £8.5m more than Koch - Orta cannot sit there and suggest Gvardiol is worth the sum of money they've now offered.
