We are now just a matter of days away from a momentous occasion for Leeds.

For the first time since 2004, they will step out onto the field as a Premier League club.

It's been a long time coming, but it's richly deserved for the work Marcelo Bielsa has done on and off the pitch since arriving in 2018.

Unfortunately for the Whites, they will face no tougher test than the one they'll have on Saturday evening. They are due to take on Liverpool in their opening clash of the season, a highly anticipated match for plenty of reasons.

Leeds will be huge underdogs but it'll be interesting to get a first taste of how Bielsa's side will set up in the top-flight.

It would hardly be surprising if tactically, they set up exactly how they did in the Championship.

They may have signed Rodrigo from Valencia for a club-record fee but he's barely had time to train with Leeds because of the international break. That means that Patrick Bamford will probably start.

Who plays in goal on the opening weekend will be interesting too. Illan Meslier kept seven clean sheets in ten matches in the concluding months of last season but it appears as though Kiko Casilla is back in favour.

Heading forward, though, neither may play on a regular basis.

That's because Leeds are still interested in signing Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez this summer.

According to a report from Football Insider, they are still considering a swoop for the Argentine, although he is not currently the number one priority.

Victor Orta supposedly wants to get a deal over the line for a defender and attacking midfielder first.

Aston Villa have already made two bids for the stopper, with the last one totalling £15m. Arsenal want £20m for the 6 foot 3 goalkeeper according to prior reports.

Emiliano Martinez

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Leeds are right to focus on other areas at the moment, mainly because they don't exactly need another 'keeper in their ranks.

The situation of who plays between the sticks is a really interesting one. Casilla started the final game of last season despite being found guilty of racially abusing Jonathan Leko and he's continued to play in pre-season.

That's sent a strange message from the club, especially when they have someone as talented as Meslier lying in wait.

Emiliano Martinez

He was outstanding when he came in for the Spaniard last term. Assured with his feet and commanding in the air, the French youngster didn't look out of place whatsoever.

Martinez is also very adept in those situations, being hailed as "phenomenal" by Mikel Arteta for his excellent form. He starred during Arsenal's run to the FA Cup final and is now proven in the Premier League. Casilla and Meslier, on the other hand, are not.

That being said, the latter was in solid form against the Gunners when they met back in January. He made four saves to keep his side in the game so the signs bode well ahead of a potential top-flight debut.
