Sebastian Vettel: Ferrari driver will join the renamed Aston Martin team in 2021

Sebastian Vettel officially has a new team for the 2021 season as he will be joining up with the renamed Aston Martin following the expiration of his Ferrari contract.

The German, who has been on the market for the past few months after it was announced he had no future at the Prancing Horse, has finally got his future sorted as it was confirmed earlier today that he would be joining the newly renamed side.

The 33-year-old has had two years to forget at Ferrari, making costly errors regularly and driving in a car that has been massively underwhelming.

However, he will join a team that is currently on the up in Aston Martin, currently known as Racing Point.

The German four-time world champion will replace Sergio Perez, and it's a move the constructors are clearly delighted with.

Team principal Otmar Szafnauer said, as per the BBC: "Sebastian is a proven champion and brings a winning mentality that matches our own ambitions for the future as Aston Martin F1 Team.

"On a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, Sebastian is one of the best in the world, and I can't think of a better driver to help take us into this new era. He will play a significant role in taking this team to the next level."

Speaking about his own future and the move, Vettel said: "I'm extremely proud to say I will become an Aston Martin driver in 2021.

"I have been impressed with the results the team has achieved this year and I believe the future looks even brighter.

"The energy and commitment of Lawrence [Stroll, the owner] to the sport is inspiring and I believe we can build something very special together.

"I still have so much love for Formula 1 and my only motivation is to race at the front of the grid. To do so with Aston Martin will be a huge privilege."
