Liverpool target Taye Taiwo appears to be set to finalise his future after reports emerged suggesting he has agreed to join AC Milan.

The Marseille defender has been courted by a number of clubs both in the Barclays Premier League and on the continent after opting to let his contract expire at the Stade Velodrome.

Now, according to L'Equipe, AC Milan will beat off competition from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea after concluding negotiations with the San Siro club.

Liverpool were initially thought to be among the frontrunners to sign the 26-year-old as they scour the globe for a player to fill their problematic left-back position.

However, it would appear Liverpool will have to look elsewhere with the Nigerian set for Italy and, if reports are to be believed, there are no shortage of candidates to make the move to Anfield.

Newcastle full-back Jose Enrique appears to be the favourite to join Liverpool in the summer, while Benfica star Fabio Coentrao has also been linked with a switch to Anfield.
