Leeds kick off their Premier League campaign with the toughest test possible on Saturday evening.

It's typical. You wait 16 years to finally see your team kick a ball in the top-flight, only for them to face reigning champions, Liverpool, on the opening day.

The thing good about the Whites is that they won't be scared of a match of this magnitude.

Marcelo Bielsa has installed a fighting spirit and never say die attitude into his squad and after cruising to the Championship title with a ten-point cushion last term, will have plenty of confidence themselves.

They will also be boosted by the club-record arrival of Rodrigo and the acquisition of German defender Robin Koch.

The former is an elite player while the latter is someone who is progressing nicely in the professional game, now finding himself in the Germany set-up.

Whether the duo start remains to be seen - both players haven't enjoyed too big a pre-season after joining.

Leeds have signed no fewer than eight players in the window to date but they're not done there.

In fact, they're now rivalling another newly-promoted side in Fulham for a player.

That happens to be promising Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis.

Leeds have been interested in the player already this summer but their pursuit of the 21-year-old has been given a boost.

That's because a proposed move to AC Milan is now unlikely to happen. Consequently, TuttoMercatoWeb, indicate that Luis would like to move to England and the Premier League.

Fulham supposedly have the advantage in the race to sign the youngster but we all know the financial firepower Leeds have at the moment.

His release clause is a supposed £91m but Fulham's last offer for the Portuguese was a loan offer with an obligation to buy of €30m (£27.5m).

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Forget Rodrigo de Paul or Josko Gvardiol, Luis simply has to be the club's number one target going forward - he is that good.

The young holding player is an exceptional ball-winning midfielder and has the ability to be a mainstay in the Leeds engine room for years to come.

Hear us out on this one, but he could even surpass Kalvin Phillips' potential.

Described by his former coach Joao Tralhao as a defensively "top-class player", he wins an absurd amount of tackles.

Florentino Luis

In one Europa League outing last term, Luis was victorious from ten challenges. That is a freakish record for such a young individual.

In Liga NOS, meanwhile, he won 2.5 tackles per game. His passing is also a joy to behold, completing 89.3% last season.

Let's compare that to Phillips. In 2019/20, the England international won 2.6 tackles and completed 81.8% of his passes. Phillips is now 24, so it's clear to see why Luis may actually have more potential.
