Aston Villa will have to wait until game week two to play their first Premier League match of the season.

It's disappointing for everyone associated at the club that they'll have to wait such a long period of time but that shouldn't be any detriment.

They are currently basking in the glory of some fabulous captures in the transfer market.

After adding Matty Cash, the club confirmed the arrival of striker Ollie Watkins for a club-record fee potentially rising to £33m.

Talk about a way to make a statement.

Remarkably, Villa want to splash even more before the window closes. That's because they're on the verge of sealing a £20m switch for Arsenal stopper Emi Martinez.

Lange won't stop there either. The Villans want to make sure they have all their bases covered.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Aston Villa now want to add further firepower to their squad.

They may have splashed out on Watkins already but clearly, they are rather worried about the potential of Wesley and Mbwana Samatta this season.

The newspaper believes Josh King is a leading target, but more impressively, they want to do a deal to bring Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard to the Midlands.

He has already been linked with a move to Villa Park this summer in a deal that could cost £30m. However, nothing had really materialised.

That is until now. Neil Lennon and co better brace themselves for a bid over the coming weeks because Edouard is a sought-after man.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

If you thought Watkins was prolific then just check out Edouard's record - he'd be an even better signing than the former Brentford striker.

The Frenchman scored has racked up 52 goals in the last 24 months alone.

He netted 22 in the 2018/19 season before following that up with an incredible haul of 27 strikes in 45 outings last term.

On top of that, he's already netted three times this campaign as well.

Edouard is a striker that seemingly has it all. He can hold the ball up using his strong frame but also run in behind using his eye-catching pace.

It's no surprise to see that he's been hailed as "outstanding" by John Hartson for his performances at Celtic.

This is a player destined for a Premier League move and Villa could have their rivals drooling over their business if they land him.

After all, Leicester, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been linked with a swoop for the 22-year-old in recent months.

If Aston Villa manage to sign Edouard on top of Watkins, they should have absolutely no excuse but to cement themselves in the Premier League - they are fantastic clinical finishers.
