Paul Scholes is one of the greatest players in Premier League history.Rival supporters can say what they like about the Manchester United legend, but everyone is in agreement that Scholes is one of the most talented players to grace England's top flight.Scholes won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Champions League trophies during his time at Old Trafford, making 718 appearances and scoring over 150 goals.

Scholes vs Lampard vs Gerrard

However, the one area in which Scholes tends to suffer, at least in terms of supporter polls, is when he's compared with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in their eternal debate.

Of course, once upon a time, England looked to have Europe's best midfield with Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard all hailing from three of the Premier League's prestigious top four.

It goes without saying that the 'Golden Generation' never worked out for Scholes, who bowed out of international football in 2004 and was played regularly on the left by Sven Goran Eriksen.

Is Scholes overrated?

But that's not the only ammunition with which supporters of Gerrard and Lampard probe the United great with many going as far as claiming that he was 'overrated'.

It's a pretty tough pill to swallow when you consider Zinedine Zidane named Scholes as his toughest opponent and Toni Kroos settled the debate on Twitter by picking the United man.

But calls of 'overrated' seem to persist whenever Scholes vs Gerrard vs Lampard is raised on social media, which has sparked something of a retaliation from United fans.

Video claims Scholes has been 'disrespected'

That seems to have come to the fore ahead of the new Premier League season, too, with Twitter user @Hxnz99 going as far as circulating a video of Scholes that has since gone viral.

The brilliant two-minute montage seeks to argue that Scholes has been 'disrespected' by the narrative surrounding him since his retirement.

Not only does the compilation show some of Scholes' most miraculous goals and passes, but also many of the biggest names in football tipping their hat to him - check it out down below:

Silencing the Scholes critics

Does it answer the Gerrard vs Lampard vs Scholes debate? Of course not, all sides of the argument have their own merits, but it does shine on a light on how the Untied man is perceived.

It goes without saying that calling a player 'overrated' has as much to do with fan perception as it does with the player themselves, though I hardly think, personally, that Scholes is overhyped.

Besides, the whole counter narrative against Scholes means you could easily argue that the former United midfielder has actually become underrated.

But regardless of how we brand Scholes and his career, let this video serve as a reminder that, no mater what you think about him, the guy knew how to play football rather well.
