Aston Villa have enjoyed the last few months.

After securing promotion to the Premier League the midlands side faced a huge task last term as they were left to take on the challenge of avoiding an immediate return to the second tier.

They certainly managed that.

It may have cost them over £140million in transfer fees, and seen them take the battle right to the final minutes of the season, but supporters will not mind one bit.

But now the focus is on the new season.

Signing some quality players was always going to be the name of the game as Villa look to avoid a relegation this time around, and they've certainly done that.

After Matty Cash arrived from Nottingham Forest, Dean Smith's side secured a deal to bring Ollie Watkins to Villa Park from Championship side Brentford.

But while those deals will undoubtedly strengthen the side, there's still plenty of room for improvement.

One player who is on the radar of Aston Villa is Milot Rashica.

Reports from the Daily Express have claimed that the left winger is being lined up for a move to the midlands side.

Valued at £19.8million by Transfermarkt, the Werder Bremen enjoyed a decent campaign last time out where he scored 11 goals and created eight for the German side.

Bremen are resigned to losing Rashica this summer with the 24-year-old also said to be attracting the interest of RB Leipzig.

However Villa are still said to be favourites to complete a deal with reports stating that they are in 'advanced negotiations' over a deal, meaning that a move could be completed sooner rather than later.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

What a deal this would be for Aston Villa.

Described as 'a good player' by Werder Bremen's sporting director, Milot Rashica would be a top addition for Dean Smith's side.

They've been desperate to add attacking flair and creativity, and the 24-year-old has both in abundance.

As well as being a tricky winger, Rashica also has an eye for goal which could be crucial to Villa achieving their objectives this term.

While Leeds United have been linked with a move, Villa are very much in the driving seat over a deal and that will be a big boost to them.

The sooner they get this deal done the better, as he could be someone who makes an immediate impact.
