Tottenham kicked off their Premier League season with a clash against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

It was a game between two teams with conflicting methods in the transfer window to date.

The Toffees have spent big in bringing Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure to the club while Spurs have been more reserved.

Daniel Levy simply hasn't had the funds to go berzerk in the market and as a result, they have spent small sums on a trio of players.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the first to arrive and then Jose Mourinho welcomed seasoned professional Joe Hart through the door.

However, the most eye-catching addition was to bring Matt Doherty in from Wolves.

He has been one of the most consistent and dangerous wing-backs in the Premier League since Nuno Santo's side were promoted so to get him for £12m was excellent business.

Spurs aren't done in the window just yet, though. Next on their radar is a striker to play second fiddle to Harry Kane.

Josh King and Arkadiusz Milik have been linked but now they're after someone who was on the verge of joining nine months ago during the winter window.

Per Eldesmarque (via Sport Witness), Levy has greenlighted a move for the club to pursue a deal for Real Sociedad forward Willian Jose.

The club had supposedly agreed personal terms with the player back in January but he ended up staying in La Liga.

Whether Spurs have better luck this time remains to be seen.

The tall striker is believed to be on their radar again after Mourinho 'demanded' that a striker was signed before the window closes.

Spurs had a €20m (£18.5m) bid rejected for his services all those months ago but it's now thought a fee of something similar will be enough to lure him to north London.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Every now and then you hear cries of Tottenham's need for a plan B.

From an attacking point of view, they rarely have that at the moment. Without Kane, they struggle and they don't really have someone to come off the bench and change the game in a central area.

Steven Bergwijn is a nippy creative forward but signing someone like Jose could change the game from Tottenham's perspective.

Standing at close to 6 foot 3, he has a huge frame that he uses to bulldoze his opponents aside.

Add the fact that he can score goals and you have the ideal remedy here.

The 28-year-old netted 11 times last season but started just 24 games. Not always in favour at Sociedad, he'd be used to playing from the bench.

That's another key advantage if Spurs were to sign him.

After all, Milik is reportedly not too keen on being a second choice. Thus, a move for Jose surely makes more sense than splashing out on the Napoli striker.
