Dominic Thiem has finally got his name on a Grand Slam trophy after his sensational comeback victory at the US Open against Alexander Zverev.

After near misses in the French Open against clay king Rafael Nadal, it was finally Thiem's coming of age party as he battled back from two sets down to take the US Open.

Losing the first two sets 6-2, 6-4, it looked like it was going to be yet another near miss for the Austrian, but showing pure determination and fight, Thiem then managed to keep the match alive by winning the third set 6-4.

Clearly the tides had turned at that point, as Thiem continued to dominate and continued to go from strength to strength, taking the fourth set 6-3 and sending us to a deciding set.

Eventually it was the 27-year-old who got the job done, winning the final-set tie-break 8-6, to take the fifth and final set 7-6.

Thiem has stopped the dominant trend set by the 'Big Three' of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who had won the previous 13 Grand Slams between them.

However, with Federer recovering from injury and Nadal opting against playing due to coronavirus, it only left the Serbian in the tournament as one of the aforementioned trio.

But, we all know how his tournament ended prematurely; being disqualified for hitting a line judge with a ball.

Speaking after the final, Thiem couldn't hide his relief at FINALLY getting his name on a Grand Slam trophy.

"I expect it's going to be easier for me now in the biggest tournaments," he said.

"I had it in the back of my head that I had a great career so far, way better than I could ever dreamt of, but until today there was still a big goal missing.

"With this achieved, I hope that I'm going to be a little bit more relaxed and play a little bit more freely at the biggest events."
