It's been a summer of twists and turns for Newcastle United.

Last season ended with the club seemingly closing in on a takeover that would have seen them become the richest team in England.

Unfortunately for supporters that £300million deal fell through and it was back to the drawing board for Mike Ashley.

It seemed for a while that Newcastle would be keeping their bank account on lockdown as they targeted free transfers from Mark Gillespie and Jeff Hendrick from Motherwell and Burnley.

But then the club upped their game.

Seemingly knowing that a takeover wouldn't be completed this summer, the Magpies kicked on in the transfer market and signed three top quality players.

Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Jamal Lewis all joined with 48 hours of each other, and that was a signal of intent that was gratefully received by supporters.

But it seems that Newcastle aren't finished yet.

The Magpies are still in the market for more players, and one report has suggested that they could be looking for another attacking reinforcement.

Reports from Inside Futbol have claimed that Newcastle have made an approach to sign Cengiz Under.

The Roma star is attracting plenty of attention this summer with clubs in the Premier League and Germany's Bundesliga all linked.

Steve Bruce's side have reportedly made a loan offer for the 23-year-old.

Leicester City are another club interested and reports in The Sun claim that they're preparing a £23million offer.

It's thought that Roma are hoping to sell the Turkish international on a permanent deal, meaning that the Magpies will have to change their offer if they're to get a deal for the right winger done.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Newcastle United fans can hardly believe their luck at how this summer has gone.

After the bitter blow of missing out on PIF's £300million takeover deal, it was expected that the club would avoid spending money where they could.

However this has not being the case at all.

Three solid signings were made last week, and the fact that the Magpies are still being linked with significant deals is encouraging.

Valued at £20.7million by Transfermarkt, it seems unlikely that Newcastle would make a permanent offer to sign the player - particularly after completing a deal for Ryan Fraser so recently.

However if they can bring him in on loan then it would be a huge boost.

But whether that happens remains to be seen.
