With Emiliano Martinez set to join Aston Villa, Arsenal are on the lookout for another back-up goalkeeper.
During Bernd Leno’s injury towards the end of last season, Martinez performed brilliantly as he helped Mikel Arteta’s side win the FA Cup.
In fact, he performed a little *too* well because he realised he’s far too good to continue playing second-fiddle at the Emirates.
However, it seems the Gunners have already identified his replacement - Runar Alex Runarsson.
The Icelandic goalkeeper plays for Dijon but reports suggest he’s already undergone a medical ahead of signing a five-year deal.
We won’t blame Arsenal fans if they don’t know too much about the 25-year-old.
However, we also don’t blame Arsenal fans if they object to his arrival.
That’s because three scathing tweets he sent about Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger back in 2011 have been discovered.
He’s since deleted the tweets but one Arsenal supporter found them and demanded ‘Don't bring this ba****d near my club.”
The first one he sent was in April 2011, when he wrote: "Hell, this Wenger guy is stupid."
A few months later in July, he wrote: “Arsene Wenger is a little too stupid! #frenchf**k."
That summer, Arsenal sold Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.
A week before the Gunners lost 8-2 to Manchester United in August 2011, Runarsson tweeted: "Arsene Wenger is definitely the dumbest man on this planet! #frenchf**k."
Imagine what he thought after that result.
It’s fair to say many Arsenal fans aren’t taking too kindly to their potential new signing after seeing those past tweets.
Ok, let’s cut him a bit of slack. Runarsson would have been just 16 when he sent those and was just tweeting like a typical Arsenal fan. Many die-hard Gooners probably tweeted something similar during the end of Wenger’s spell in north London.
Maybe we need a Matt Doherty style announcement video of him awkwardly deleting those tweets when he signs...
