Tottenham unlikely to follow up interest in £18m star

Tottenham Hotspur desperately need attacking reinforcements.

That much is common knowledge.

The north London side endured a frustrating campaign last term when off-field matters has a detrimental impact on what happened on the pitch.

It was a campaign of fire fighting for Daniel Levy and that's why the end result of finishing in sixth place and qualifying for the Europa League was a relative success.

But don't be fooled into thinking that those standards will stick this term.

Jose Mourinho has been brought in to win silverware and take the club to the next level, and that includes playing regularly in the Champions League.

The first team squad is lacking in quality, and that's why it's essential that Spurs strengthen this summer.

Levy has already overseen a number of new additions, but the focus has to be on bringing in an attacker.

Harry Kane has been shouldering the club's goalscoring responsibility for too long, and it's time that someone was brought in to ease the workload.

Unfortunately doing that is more difficult than they thought.

Plenty of names have been linked with a move to Tottenham, but as of yet no deal seems to imminent.

One of those players is Alexander Sorloth.

The Crystal Palace man is currently on loan with Turkish side Trabzonspor who hold a mandatory clause that will make his deal permanent next summer if he plays the majority of games this term.

That could make a move to Spurs complicated, and according to Football London's Tottenham reporter Rob Guest, it's a deal that won't be pursued by the north London club.

Writing in a Q&A, Guest said: "Talk of a move for Sorloth has come from the Trabzonspor president as he stated over the weekend that Spurs and RB Leipzig are keen.

"Jose Mourinho was quizzed about the comments in his press conference and he claimed that he couldn't say it was not true after it came from the president.

"Sorloth is a typical Mourinho striker but we understand that he isn't one they're looking to make a move for."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Another day, another striker linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

It's become the norm during this summer transfer window.

Alexander Sorloth seemed like the sort of player who would fit the bill for Spurs, however a move would certainly be complicated.

After all the £18million-rated star did score 32 goals last term.

A move would be affordable but according to Guest he's not a player that Tottenham will be looking at, which is surprising.

It'll be interesting to see where the club focus their efforts in the coming weeks, as they need to bring someone in if they're to compete this term.
