Timo Werner made his long-awaited Chelsea debut on Monday night.
After arriving from RB Leipzig in June, the German had to wait three months to play for the Blues as they finished off the 2019/20 campaign.
His first appearance was well worth the wait, though.
Werner was one of the best players on the pitch against Brighton. He looked rapid, linked up with his teammates well and although he didn't score, he did win a penalty.
There's plenty to be excited about if you're a Chelsea fan.
But one person who Werner is yet to win over is Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.
Following the Blues' 3-1 win, he said on Monday Night Football that the German wouldn't get into Liverpool's team.
"Right now, he wouldn’t get in the Liverpool front three. Watching him for Leipzig, you think about how much he loves that left channel," Carragher argued.
"He can play left of the front three, but predominantly, he will be the central striker."
In simple terms, the ex-Liverpool star doesn't believe Werner is a better player than Roberto Firmino.
But stats from the 2019/20 season prove otherwise. Check them out, per The Sun, below.
Games played | Werner: 45, Firmino: 52
Minutes played | Werner: 3,588, Firmino: 3,919
Goals | Werner: 32, Firmino: 12
Minutes per goal | Werner: 106, Firmino: 327
Shot conversion rate | Werner 21.3%, Firmino: 9.8%
Assists | Werner: 12, Firmino: 12
Goals and assists | Werner: 46, Firmino: 24
Chances created | Werner: 69, Firmino: 73
Chances created per game | Werner: 1.7, Firmino: 1.7
As you can see, Chelsea's new star dominates the Liverpool frontman in almost all attacking stats.
We all knew that Werner scored more goals last season but just look at the German's impressive shot conversion rate of 21.3% compared to Firmino's 9.8%.
Now, you can obviously argue that the Premier League is tougher than the Bundesliga, but this season we really expect Werner to prove himself in England.
Carragher's comments could soon come back to bite him.
