Tottenham Hotspur are really kicking on in the transfer market.

After finishing sixth in the Premier League last term there was always going to be a real focus on strengthening the first team squad.

Jose Mourinho has been tasked with winning a trophy and qualifying for the Champions League, and means that work needs to be done.

Spurs have already made a decent start to the summer transfer window after adding three experienced players to their ranks.

They come in the shape of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty who have arrived from Southampton, Burnley and Wolves respectively.

While the additions are certainly solid, they're probably not the sort of signings that will see the club kick on and overtake their rivals.

That's why the club needed to take their recruitment up a gear - something that they certainly seem to be doing.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with signing a new striker, while a deal to bring in wing-back Sergio Reguilon is also close to being completed.

But that deal has been blown out of the water by their interest in a familiar face.

Of course we're talking about Gareth Bale.

The Real Madrid man is available for a transfer this summer after falling dramatically out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu.

That has left the Wales star assessing his options ahead of another campaign as an outcast in Zinedine Zidane's squad.

Reports have claimed that Spurs are in talks with Bale's representatives over a potential move, but a fresh update has brought some details to light.

According to the Daily Express, Tottenham offered a swap deal that included sending Dele Alli to the Spanish champions.

However it's claimed that Real Madrid turned down the offer as they continue negotiations over a deal.

Talks are set to continue over the coming days, with the potential for both a permanent and a loan deal still on the cards.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

The details of this proposed swap deal are absolutely mind-blowing.

Valued at £28million for Transfermarkt, Gareth Bale looks determined to end his Real Madrid nightmare this summer.

It's surprising that Dele Alli was offered to the Spanish side as part of the deal, but the fact that this offer was rejected by Zinedine Zidane's squad is telling.

Alli's stock isn't as high as it once was, and the last thing that Real Madrid want is a player who isn't going to improve their team.

Negotiations still look like they're ongoing, but it certainly seems that the England international won't be a part of any deal.
