Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is delighted with his current form and is ready to win back the fans approval after a difficult start to the season.

Rooney earlier in the season went back on his decision to leave the club and a return to form has seen him hit 11 goals since February, his latest coming in the first-leg of the Champions League semi-final against Schalke 04.

And with United on the brink of the final in Europe, and of securing the Barclays Premier League, Rooney is glad to be paying the fans back.

“Obviously, it’s been a lot different in the second half of the season compared to the first,” said Rooney.

“I am a lot happier in my life and happier with the way I’m playing, it’s like I’ve been settling down again.

“I’m very grateful to the fans for supporting me through it and I’m delighted with my form again. I hope I am proving myself through my performances.

“I understand I made a mistake. When I look at it now how wrong was I!

“I admitted that and I apologised for that and I have wanted to try and prove myself again to the Manchester United fans. I feel I am doing that now. I am 100 per cent committed to this club. It was a long time ago now and hopefully now I am helping this team be successful.

“It would be a great end to the season with a Champions League final and to win the League.”

The England international's return to form has coincided with United's best showing of the season against Schalke on Tuesday evening, form that is coming at just the right time for club as they hunt down two trophies in the final weeks of the season.
