Liverpool have agreed a £27m deal to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich. The Spanish midfielder has been courted by the Reds all summer, but there were concerns that Jurgen Klopp's side would refuse to meet Bayern's asking price. Those fears are now over, with The Athletic reporting that a deal has now been agreed between the two parties. It's a statement of intent from the Premier League champions and the addition of Thiago is one that makes Liverpool favourites to retain their crown in 2020/21.The 29-year-old Spaniard was instrumental in Bayern's treble-winning season in 2019/20 and is revered as one of the best players in the world.

Thiago had less than one-year left on his contract at Bayern and the German champions were eager to sell this summer after the Spaniard made it clear he would not be staying.

His contract situation was the reason behind Liverpool's hesitance in spending £27m on the former Barcelona midfielder, but there's no doubt that the Reds are signing a world-class player for a fair price.

There isn't a team in world football that Thiago doesn't start for and he'll provide the creativity from deep that Klopp's side sorely need.

While the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum are all fantastic players, they don't quite have the zest and ingenuity of Thiago.

But the Spaniard's work ethic and willingness to defend are mighty impressive as well and he'll no doubt slot seamlessly into Klopp's midfield.

“He [Thiago] reads the game really well and he dictates tempo, he can slow the game down and speed it up, and not many players can do that," Ex-Liverpool man Danny Murphy told talkSPORT.

“He can also play ahead of someone holding, like Fabinho, and get forward a bit more and play the through balls and be more creative. He’s one of the best."

It's time to get excited, Liverpool fans!
