Leeds United face a pivotal few weeks in the transfer market.

The Whites have enjoyed a decent summer so far after completing deals for both Robin Koch and Rodrigo, alongside a number of talented young players for the future.

But the club know that they need to strengthen further.

It's been 16 long years since Leeds graced the Premier League and the last thing that they want to do is drop to the second tier at the first opportunity.

Marcelo Bielsa is a man who knows what he's doing - after all, it takes a special manager to win the Championship by 10 clear points with such tough competition.

But the top flight is a different challenge altogether.

Leeds need to add quality to their squad if they are to compete over the course of 38 games, and that's where Victor Orta and his recruitment team come into it.

The Spaniard has been tasked with finding players who can improve Bielsa's squad and pitching them to the Argentine as potential additions.

While the pair are often in agreement over targets, it's not uncommon for a head coach and director of football to disagree over who the best option actually is.

At Leeds it will be no different.

Phil Hay is one of the most reputable reporters on the Elland Road beat and he hinted at such disagreements in a recent piece.

Discussing the need to sign a winger for Bielsa's squad for The Athletic, Hay says: "As for Harry Wilson, Orta is always hugely keen on him but Bielsa hasn’t sanctioned a move for him yet.

"I get the impression that Bielsa thinks more of Ryan Kent.”

What this means for their summer plans remains to be seen, but it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top in this power struggle.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Well this is very interesting.

The dynamic between a head coach and a sporting director is always an intriguing one with both people often prioritising very different aspects of the deal.

In this case, it is regarding the addition of a winger.

Both Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson are players who we have seen linked with a move to Elland Road on various occasions this summer, and so it's interesting to get some insight into how the conversations are transpiring behind the scenes.

Phil Hay has hinted at unrest in this comment, but in truth this sort of conversation will happen in every club up and down the country.

One thing that we do know is that Leeds need to add some creativity to their side, and so whoever is coming in needs to do it sooner rather than later.
