Tottenham's transfer window has lift-off.

After a few months of the market being open, it's about time that Daniel Levy reached into his pockets and spent a bit of money.

He had been quiet this summer and in spending £27m on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty, it didn't look like they had too much to spend.

However, that theory has been crushed this week.

That's because they are on the verge of signing two players from Real Madrid.

According to renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, they will sign defender Sergio Reguilon and then also bring in Gareth Bale on a season-long loan.

The Welshman has been tipped to return to Spurs for a number of years now and it looks as though he'll finally return, penning a deal that sees the Londoners pay half of his wages. All of a sudden, Tottenham have significantly increased their chances of qualifying for the Champions League again.

Gareth Bale against Manchester City

Despite those two additions, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp thinks they shouldn't stop there.

He wants Tottenham to make a sensational swoop for another former player.

Speaking to ITV News, he said:

"It’s great to have him [Bale] back. If I was Tottenham I think I’d do a double deal and look to bring back Luka Modric too. He could be the player that Tottenham need to run the game from the middle of the park.

"He’s got so much ability. If Daniel is really looking to have a go, he should look at bringing the pair of them back – he could do an awful lot worse – they’re both amazing footballers."

Luka Modric vs Manchester City

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Let's set the record straight immediately, this deal simply won't happen this summer.

No matter how much Redknapp wants Modric back in north London, he doesn't particularly have fond memories of his stay in the Premier League.

In denying the Croatian a move to Chelsea in 2011, Levy called him an "exceptional talent."

However, the sentiment wasn't repaid by the 35-year-old.

The now Ballon d'Or winner had some rather choice words to say about the Tottenham director.

Luka Modric vs Sevilla

Speaking about Levy in his autobiography, he revealed: "I resented him because on a couple of occasions he had promised to let me move to a bigger club and then broke his promise. For me, one’s promise and one’s word are more important than anything in the club’s or the player’s best interest."

Modric also described the situation as "torture", claiming that before a move to Real Madrid occurred, he was constantly stressed that Levy would deny him his big opportunity.

Although the 127-cap midfielder admits the duo had a good relationship before that, it seems incredibly far-fetched to think Modric would want to see out his career under someone who repeatedly broke promises.

Spurs may have to settle for Bale and Reguilon for now.
