Thiago Alcantara is on his way to Liverpool.

After weeks of speculation, the Reds have got their man - and for a relatively small price, too.

Liverpool will pay just £20 million upfront for the Bayern Munich midfielder, with a further £5 million comprised of add-ons.

A total fee of £25 million for a player of Thiago’s calibre in today’s market represents a real bargain.

Liverpool fans can’t wait to see the 29-year-old plying his trade at Anfield, but how will Klopp set his side up with the Spaniard in his starting XI?

Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker

Obviously. Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold

Is this the season we see Trent Alexander-Arnold used in a more advanced position? For now, he’ll continue to be Klopp’s first-choice right-back.

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk

The best defender in the world. Enough said.

Centre-back: Joe Gomez

Gomez faces competition from Joel Matip for the second centre-back spot.

Left-back: Andy Robertson

Summer signing Kostas Tsimikas will provide back-up for Robertson at left-back this season.

Defensive midfield: Fabinho

Will Klopp deploy both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the same XI? It’s certainly an option.

Central midfield: Jordan Henderson

Naby Keita may get the nod over Henderson but it’s hard to envisage Klopp dropping his influential captain for the biggest games.

Central midfield: Thiago Alcantara

Thiago wouldn’t have joined Liverpool if he wasn’t assured of a place in Klopp’s first-choice XI. The technically-gifted midfielder could make a massive impact in the Premier League this term.

Left-forward: Sadio Mane

And the front three picks itself, with Sadio Mane starting wide-left.

Right-forward: Mohamed Salah

Salah began the 2020-21 campaign with a hat-trick against Leeds last weekend. Another Premier League Golden Boot incoming?

Centre-forward: Roberto Firmino

Firmino will be looking to score more goals this season (especially at Anfield) but the Brazilian remains a key play in Klopp’s system.

Over on Liverpool’s Reddit page, meanwhile, a rather different looking starting line-up has been suggested.

Even if this isn’t the XI that Klopp will deploy in the big matches, the graphic shows the impressive strength in depth that Liverpool currently possess.

Following Thiago’s arrival, Liverpool will once again be the team the rest need to beat.
