Aston Villa head into their opening clash of the Premier League season against Sheffield United full of confidence.

The club have spent close to £75m this summer and have already beaten both Arsenal and Manchester United in pre-season.

To make matters even better, Ollie Watkins hit the ground running by scoring on his competitive debut against Burton Albion in midweek.

The club-record signing has arrived with plenty of hype and he'll need to hit the ground running incredibly quickly.

Villa have been impressive in the transfer market and his addition shows just how good Johan Lange has been since arriving as the new sporting director.

His latest signing was Emi Martinez from Arsenal and it's expected that he'll play from the off against the Blades in the coming days.

However, if you thought Aston Villa's business would be done after they acquire Bertrand Traore, think again.

Emiliano Martinez

The Villans have already signed a right-back in Matty Cash this summer but now it looks as though they're trying to strengthen the left-hand side as well.

According to French outlet Le10 Sport, Aston Villa are one of the sides interested in signing Tottenham's Danny Rose.

The full-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle and has fallen out of favour considerably with Jose Mourinho.

It was thought that a move to Genoa was on the cards but it appears as though Villa are trying to steal a march after slow progress in talks between the Londoners and the Serie A club.

PSG and West Ham are also interested in signing the England international.

Danny Rose against Manchester City

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This would be an interesting addition for the Midlands side.

Rose is a player with plenty of Premier League experience - 194 games in fact - but he isn't the consistent player he used to be when he was getting picked regularly for his country.

Former Villa boss Steve Bruce described the 30-year-old as a "quality player and a class act" last season but that isn't entirely a fair assessment of the left-sided player.

It's not too clear whether a move for Rose would be a permanent or temporary deal, but if the Villans are looking for a new left-back in the market, they need to pursue one of their other targets more strongly.

That happens to be Rico Henry. He's not only a player with masses of potential, but he already knows Dean Smith well and would take minimal time to settle into life at Villa Park.

Rose may be the seasoned professional but Aston Villa need a sense of vibrancy injected into the squad. Henry would be the answer here.
