The gap is now just three points.

Celtic's game in hand on Wednesday could not have gone more to plan as they ran out 2-1 winners against St Mirren.

Shane Duffy helped himself to yet another goal, meaning he now has two strikes in two games as the Glaswegians cut the difference to Rangers.

Although there will have been plenty of smiles on the faces of supporters, the beaming grin on Nick Hammond's would have been the largest.

He has had a brilliant summer so far, with Albian Ajeti also hitting the ground running when it comes to goals.

The last few weeks have been in stark contrast to the month before. August was a rocky period for Celtic where they were knocked out of the Champions League and found at the centre of Boli Bolingoli's quarantine saga.

However, they are out of the worst of it and look back in business.

The Hoops have now scored ten times in their last three outings and all of a sudden, things look a lot rosier at Parkhead.

All that's left to do now, is finally sign a left-back.

Celtic have been linked with the likes of Aaron Hickey, Barry Douglas and Alfie Doughty this summer but there is a new name on their radar now.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Bhoys hold a 'concrete interest' in signing Genk defender Jere Uronen.

The Finland international, who is capped 42 times, is also attracting the interest of clubs in Italy and Germany. However, the report doesn't specify exactly who.

Rated at just £2.5m by Transfermarkt, he could be a potential bargain for Nick Hammond and co.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Celtic need to choose wisely this summer over who they pick to be their new left-back. Of course, Greg Taylor is still a capable option, but if Bolingoli departs on loan, they'll need another option.

A swoop for Doughty seems incredibly difficult given their two rejected bids while Hickey looks like he's on the verge of joining Bologna in Serie A.

As for Douglas, is probably past his best at the age of 31.

Uronen, on the other hand, is now in his prime.

The 26-year-old has become a pivotal part of the Genk side and has been one of their key players during respective European campaigns.

In total, the Fin has 38 continental matches under his belt and has been a pillar of consistency in most of them.

A player who is strong in the tackle, winning 3.2 tackles per game in the 2018/19 Nations League, he is also capable in the air - reigning supreme in 1.8 aerial duels in the same competition.

If we're comparing that to those at Celtic this season, he'd be top in terms of successful challenges. Clearly, this would be a shrewd piece of business from the Hoops.
