Leeds United have an ideal opportunity to gain their first win in the Premier League since April 2004 when they face Fulham on Saturday.

Not since a 2-1 victory at Ewood Park against Blackburn have the Whites secured three points in the top-flight of English football.

The players to score that day were Steven Caldwell and typically, Mark Viduka. The Australian's goal came in the 89th minute before Rovers then scored in the dying embers.

In classic Leeds style, it was a match full of drama, something that's continuing to engulf them around 16 years on.

This summer has been riveting. They won the Championship, sealed promotion, broke their transfer record and then lost 4-3 in their opening match against Liverpool.

On top of that, we had to wait an absolute age to see whether Marcelo Bielsa was going to sign a new deal at Elland Road.

Fortunately for those at Leeds, he did exactly that, putting pen to paper on a fresh one-year contract.

Another player who could be picking up the pen and signing on the dotted line is Josko Gvardiol.

The promising teenager has been linked with a switch to England since the latter stages of August.

A fee of around €20m (£18.2m) has been touted for the 18-year-old's services and if reports are to be believed, he could sign very soon.

Two weeks ago it was suggested that after Dinamo Zagreb's Champions League qualifier on Wednesday evening, he would join Leeds.

That hasn't yet happened, but after his club crashed out of Europe, they're in need of securing some extra funds from somewhere.

And in fresh news, Leeds could be willing to do them a favour. According to Index HR (via Sport Witness), United have submitted a 'concrete offer' to sign Gvardiol.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This would certainly be an interesting addition by Leeds. Pascal Struijk showed against Liverpool that he has solid potential and at the age of 21, he could be hampered by the potential arrival.

That being said, it's clear that the Whites need another centre-half to bolster their ranks.

Their main options are Robin Koch and Liam Cooper who are expected to start together once the skipper returns from injury.

So with that in mind, spending a fee of over £18m on Gvardiol doesn't exactly seem worth it right now. Phil Hay described the defender as "one of the best young prospects in Europe" earlier this week, which shows how highly he's thought of at Leeds.

However, you sense that a move for someone Premier League proven would make more sense given they've only just been promoted. If they establish themselves in the top-flight, swooping for someone of Gvardiol's potential would then be far more intelligent.

For this deal, Leeds would be paying for his potential input in a few years time, rather than the here and now. That seems like a risk.
