West Ham United are back at square one.
There wasn't much optimism heading into the new campaign and their supporters showed exactly why that was the case when they lost to Newcastle.
A team they should be competing against, they were thrown aside after goals from Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.
The Hammers have had a summer to forget, and that's putting it lightly.
Club captain Mark Noble spoke out against the West Ham hierarchy for selling Grady Diangana, and little has been done in the window to make them better.
The only addition of note in the market has been Thomas Soucek. Considering the Irons finished just places above the relegation zone last term, they could really do with some more signings to improve matters.
Unfortunately, anyone notable looks far-fetched.
West Ham have plenty of work to do in the remaining weeks of the window but they are at least being somewhat proactive.
According to Takvim (via Sport Witness), the Hammers are poised to bid for Croatia international Domagoj Vida.
The centre-back has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and West Brom in recent years, but the 31-year-old looks as though he may have to settle for a different part of London.
The report states that West Ham are set to bid €5m (£4.5m) for Vida and are now 'rolling their sleeves up' as they prepare an offer.
Vida is on a considerable amount of money at Besiktas - £70k-a-week, so could potentially become the joint fourth-highest earner at the London Stadium if he joins.

The 81-cap international is a brute of a defender but West Ham must be kidding themselves in they think someone of Vida's quality can improve their backline.
Their defence was appalling in 2019/20, conceding the third-highest number of goals in the entire Premier League.
Issa Diop's form dropped off considerably after initially being linked with Chelsea, as his partnership with Angelo Ogbonna was particularly uninspiring.
They desperately need improvement in that area of the pitch but Vida has only ever played in one of Europe's top five leagues on nine occasions.
Considering he's over the age of 30, it won't help with their ageing squad either.
The average age of their side last season was29.5, a tally only Crystal Palace and Watford topped.
It's good that Vida boasts plenty of experience, but with Ogbonna over 30 and Diop in his early 20s, perhaps they need someone that's now in their prime?
Obviously, that is easier said than done, but it would speak volumes about West Ham's lack of ambition and their recruitment by landing Vida.
After all, they were touted with a move for John Stones earlier this window. That would be far more ambitious.
