Just hours after Liverpool confirmed the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich on Friday, reports emerged claiming the Premier League champions had struck a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Diogo Jota.Jota, who has scored 44 goals in 131 appearances for Wolves, is set to join the Reds in a deal worth an initial £41 million.That fee could eventually rise to £45 million with add-ons.The 23-year-old, who has also been capped four times by Portugal, will provide Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino with additional competition upfront.It was a transfer that took everyone by surprise, but the arrival of Jota alongside Thiago will give the Reds an even better chance of retaining their Premier League crown this term.
Jota, a £12.8 million signing from Atletico Madrid in 2018, was an unused substitute in Wolves 2-0 victory over Sheffield United last weekend.
He was also left out of the Wolves squad by Nuno Espirito Santo for the mid-week League Cup defeat against Stoke City.
Ahead of his departure, one Wolves fan has posted a minute-long video showing some of Jota’s best moments at Molineux, set to James Blunt’s 2004 hit ‘Goodbye My Lover’.

Meanwhile, Wolves are set to sign Liverpool’s 18-year-old Dutch defender Ki-Jana Hoever in a separate deal.
Hoever’s move is expected to be worth an initial £9 million, with a possible additional £4.5 million in add-ons plus a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
