Tottenham Hotspur tipped to prioritise striker signing

Tottenham Hotspur look like one of the real winners in the summer transfer window.

After a disappointing season last term the north London side faced the daunting prospect of getting themselves back into contention for the top four.

Jose Mourinho will ensure that the squad are ready to compete on all fronts, but that means nothing if he doesn't have the right players.

Deals for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty have already been completed, while two monumental signings are also moving closer.

A double deal to sign Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid is nearly done, meaning that Spurs will have an undoubted injection of quality.

Bale will arrive on a season-long loan deal, while Reguilon joins on a permanent basis after an excellent season on loan with Europa League winners Sevilla.

But even with these deals it seems that Spurs aren't done.

Tottenham are still looking for a new striker to provide competition for club talisman Harry Kane, and speaking on the Sky Sports News Transfer Show, reporter Dharmesh Sheth has said that the club are determined to bring someone in before the window closes.

As quoted by The Express, Sheth said: "People are asking, with Gareth Bale arriving, does that mean Tottenham won't be signing another striker? Look, it's not been ruled out at all.

"Of course the arrivals of Bale and Reguilon would eat into the money for potential signings, that can't be questioned.

"But Tottenham's search for a striker, this is not a new thing.

"We've been talking about this for the last two, three, four, five, six transfer windows, 'will they bring in another striker to either play alongside Harry Kane? To be a backup to Harry Kane?'.

"One player they were looking at was Alexander Sorloth, that one looks like it's not going to happen now because he looks like he's on his way to RB Leipzig from Trabzonspor.

"I was told earlier this week that there is a long list of strikers that Tottenham have as they look to bring in somebody before the window closes."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

It's set to be a pivotal few weeks for Tottenham.

While the business that's being done is a huge step forward for the club, there's a real need to bring in a new striker.

So many names have been linked with a move to the club, but so far it seems that no deal is imminent.

Whether it's an old target who turns out to be the club's new signing, or if it's a fresh face who comes from nowhere remains to be seen.

But the main focus has to be on getting the deal done, as if they don't then Spurs could struggle to get the goals that they need this term.
