'Max Verstappen would beat Lewis Hamilton in the same car,' claims Eddie Jordan

Former team owner Eddie Jordan believes that Max Verstappen can beat Lewis Hamilton if the pair were racing the same car.

With Hamilton one win away from equaling the impressive record of 91 wins set by Michael Schumacher, many discussions have taken place by pundits and fans alike about who could challenge the Brit in the same car?

Hamilton’s current teammate Valtteri Bottas has been disappointing since he won the Austrian Grand Prix and looks like he is on the ropes. Race after race Hamilton has had the advantage over the Flying Finn and some believe that no one can beat Hamilton in the same car.

However, some people believe that Red Bull driver Verstappen can challenge and even beat Hamilton in the same car. One of these people is ex-team owner-turned-pundit Eddie Jordan.

With the ongoing rumours that the chemical company Ineos are looking to buy a major stake in the Mercedes Formula One team, and the future of current Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, Jordan has suggested that Hamilton should move to Red Bull to partner Verstappen.

If he were to do so, Verstappen would have the upper hand claimed Jordan during an interview with Ziggo Sport F1 Café, as per GP Blog.

"I tell you that is perfect. Because the best young driver of all of F1 is Max Verstappen. Grand Prix winners need a level of arrogance and he has that. If he had a teammate like Lewis Hamilton, I think he’s able to beat him…"

Despite this bold claim, Jordan has praised the six-time World Champion, believing that he will become the best driver ever in Formula One history by the end of the current season.

It is tricky to determine whether Jordan’s claims will come true, especially since Red Bull are known for being in favour of using drivers in their driver academy, and Hamilton has already been outspoken about how he wants to stay with Mercedes. I guess the only way we can answer this question is if Mercedes sign Verstappen for 2022.

GiveMeSport's Sam Righton says...

Personally, Verstappen still needs to work on a couple of aspects of his driving, whereas Hamilton looks like a complete package.

I still believe that Verstappen will give Hamilton a better run for his money in comparison to what Bottas is doing at the moment.

What are thoughts? Do you think Verstappen can beat Hamilton in the same car?
