Diogo Jota signs for Liverpool: New signing says FIFA 20 has made him a better player

Diogo Jota has signed for Liverpool in a deal worth around £45m

Liverpool have officially completed the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Portuguese forward joins for an initial fee of £41m, which could rise to £45m, making him the Reds' fourth-most expensive purchase of all time

While the acquisition of the 23-year-old was far from cheap, it's a signing that Liverpool simply had to make this summer.

Jota's addition will ease the attacking burden on the Reds' famous front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino, allowing manager Jurgen Klopp to rotate effectively throughout the season.

Furthermore, the Portuguese international is capable of playing in multiple attacking roles and is renowned for being two-footed.

A potentially great addition and while most are aware of Jota's talents on the pitch, few will know about his gaming exploits off of it.

To put it simply, the Portuguese loves a bit of FIFA and won the recent Premier League FIFA tournament over lockdown, beating new Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final.

Jota also famously won 30 out of 30 games during one of FIFA 20 Ultimate Team's Weekend League events and he believes his love of gaming has made him a better footballer.

“In FIFA you can understand tactics better," Jota told The Athletic.

"Yes, you play for fun, but you’re trying to work at different things, for example, if the first half your opponent might play a specific way, so in the second half you try to counter-act that.”

Given how unrealistic and loaded with bugs FIFA 20 continues to be, we wager that most will be very, very sceptical of Jota's opinion.

Unless the Portuguese plans to start delivering drag-backs and body feints every few seconds in homage to the game...
