Andreas Christensen was the unfortunate recipient of a red card against Liverpool today.The Chelsea defender was given his marching orders after hauling down Sadio Mane as the Senegalese forward charged towards Kepa Arrizabalaga's goal.Referee Paul Tierney brandished a yellow card at first but after consulting the VAR, Christensen's punishment was upgraded to a red card.On the face of it, the amended decision appeared to be the correct one. Chelsea's Danish defender made no attempt to play the ball and Mane would have been clean through had he not been fouled.It was yet another case of the VAR acting in a positive manner and it's proof that the technology can be a brilliant addition to the Premier League.
However, Jurgen Klopp was clearly not happy by the fact that those on the Liverpool bench were in a buoyant mood in response to the intervention by those at Stockley Park.
Journalists Julien Laurens and Miguel Delaney reported that the Reds boss fired back, saying that they should never applaud a red card.
